Dnipro drone attack: civil infrastructure and power plant hit
In a late-night offensive, Russia targeted Dnipro and its surrounding region with Iranian-made Shahed kamikaze drones, the Ukrainian Air Force disclosed early on Feb. 13 via Telegram.
The assault featured 17 Shahed-136/131 drones, a Kh-59 guided missile, and S-300 anti-aircraft missiles. Ukrainian air defense was able to down 14 drones and the Kh-59.
The drones were launched from Primorsko-Akhtarsk in Russia and Cape Chauda in temporarily occupied Crimea, targeting the Dnipro regions among others. Air defense units, including anti-aircraft missile units and mobile fire groups of the Air Force and Defense Forces of Ukraine, were engaged in repelling the attack across Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson oblasts.
The drone attack left civilian infrastructure in Dnipro damaged. A thermal power station ceased operations due to the strike, incurring significant damage and disrupting power production, reported DTEK, Ukraine's leading energy provider.
After the attack subsided, DTEK staff took immediate action to repair the damage and get the station back online, causing temporary power and water supply outages in parts of Dnipro.
