Ukraine amends basic military training curriculum
Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi has introduced the basics of international humanitarian law in the training curriculum for Ukrainian soldiers, the General Staff announced on July 12.
According to the message, in light of Russia's war against Ukraine and the international commitments Ukraine has undertaken, Syrskyi decided to integrate a mandatory module on international humanitarian law (that pertain to rules and norms of war) into the training course.
The General Staff stated that this would help ensure "a high level of legal culture and training among service members." The Armed Forces are committed to adhering to international humanitarian law in all aspects of their military duties, the announcement added.
On July 10, Ukraine’s Prosecutor-General Andriy Kostin reported that Russian forces once again executed unarmed Ukrainian soldiers near Robotyne in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, highlighting the latest example of Russia’s flagrant disregard to international norms.
