Ukraine and EU finalize security agreement, signing expected soon

The negotiating teams of Ukraine and the EU have finalized the text of the security agreement and agreed to sign it soon, the Presidential Office press service reported on June 19.

Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva held the final stage of negotiations on a security agreement with the EU with Charles Fries, Deputy Secretary General for Peace, Security, and Defense at the European External Action Service.

The security agreement with the EU will be concluded in accordance with the Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine, which the EU, together with the G7 countries, approved in Vilnius.

Security guarantees for Ukraine

The G7 leaders announced on July 12, 2023, that they had agreed on a declaration of security guarantees for Ukraine.

Ukraine has already signed bilateral security agreements with the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, Latvia, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Iceland, Norway, the United States, and Japan.
