Spain joins list of countries with security treaties with Ukraine
During a press conference in Madrid on May 27, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced the signing of a new bilateral security agreement with Ukraine, marking Spain as the tenth country to formalize such a commitment.
"We have just signed a political agreement that plays a very important role," Sánchez stated. "This treaty is about the future and demonstrates our commitment to providing Ukraine with all the necessary tools to ensure its stability."
Sánchez emphasized that the agreement encompasses comprehensive security measures, including financial, military, and manufacturing cooperation. It also extends to support for reconstruction, recovery efforts, and de-mining activities in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who was present in Madrid for the signing, has previously secured similar agreements with nine other nations, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Denmark, Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland, and Latvia.
The agreement signifies a deepening of ties between Ukraine and Spain, as both nations collaborate on various aspects of security and rebuilding efforts in the war-torn region.
