The Ukrainian government has canceled the national population census that was supposed to take place in 2023, Taras Melnychuk, the Cabinet’s representative in the Ukrainian parliament, announced via Telegram on Oct. 20.

According to Melnychuk, the Cabinet cancelled its Dec. 9, 2020, decree that ordered a national population census in 2023. The project was going to cost the state budget over UAH 80 million ($2.2 million).

The State Statistics Service has been instructed to initiate the census once martial law in Ukraine expires or is canceled.
