Ukraine develops domestic alternative to DJI Mavic drones

Ukrainian defense manufacturers have developed a lightweight UAV with specifications similar to those of DJI Mavic, Strategic Industries Minister Herman Smetanin announced on Nov. 11.

Smetanin noted that the drone has already been tested by the military. Six teams completed flight missions, including a 10-kilometer flight at an altitude of over 250 meters and target acquisition.

At a recent review, six Ukrainian drone manufacturers presented their designs to government and military officials. Two UAV models were subsequently certified.

According to military outlet Defense Express, the drones, which are positioned as counterparts to the Chinese-made Mavic, are not exactly comparable. The article stated that all showcased models have similar dimensions. They can operate in the air for 40 to 60 minutes and carry a payload of 1 to 3 kilograms.

These drones are primarily designed for reconnaissance but can also be used to drop explosive ordnance. They are intended for direct battlefield operations, according to the report.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
