Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen discussed financial support for Ukraine in the months ahead, Zelenskyy tweeted on Nov. 6.
The European Commission website gave some details of their discussion – according to it, von der Leyen told Zelenskyy that she would propose a financial aid package from the EU of EUR 18 billion for 2023 (up to EUR 1.5 billion per month), which would be of significant help in covering Ukraine's financing needs.
“Both leaders recognised the importance of ensuring predictable and regular funding of essential state functions,” the post on the EC website reads.
Similar support from other major donors was also considered. “The EU financial package would need to be matched by similar support from other major donors,” the EC said.
The European Union plans to continue providing humanitarian aid to Ukraine, particularly over the winter, von der Leyen said. She said again that the EU is committed to supporting Ukraine for the long term.
The two officials also discussed Ukrainian agricultural exports, strengthening sanctions, and how to counter Iran's support for Russia's aggression against Ukraine.
