Ukrainian energy system holding up to Russian assault
The Chairman of the Board of Ukrenergo Volodymyr Kudrytskyi announced on the air of the national telethon on Jan 3 that Russia’s winter attacks will not be able to destroy the Ukrainian energy system.
According to him, Russia is trying to attack more during the cold weather, but these attacks will not cause a complete power system collapse.
"This, of course, will create additional problems for us, but I am sure that it will be a question of the duration of possible interruptions in energy supply due to damage to any objects. However, there will be no collapse in the power system. The enemy will not achieve this," said Kudrytskyi.
He added that the cold is a test for the power system under even normal conditions. To pass this difficult period without blackouts, it is necessary to complete all repairs, bring all power plants to full availability, and use 1,700 MW of current import capacity.
Consumers can also help if they consume electricity sparingly in the morning and evening.
On January 3, Ukrenergo reported that electricity consumption increases at the beginning of the working week after the holidays and against the background of the cold weather.
As a result of the Russian attack on January 2, several tens of thousands of consumers in Kyiv and the region remained without electricity for several hours.
