Ukraine finds ‘thousands’ fresh troops in rear units
Following an audit
of its military, Ukraine has established that “thousands” of military personnel
assigned to rear units can be redeployed to the front line to relieve some of
the more battered brigades, the General Staff announced on April 12.
Consequently, Ukrainian units that have been fighting against Russian invaders since early 2022 will now be gradually rotated out for replenishment.
"Despite the fact that Russian occupiers continue to press on many fronts, we have found opportunities for a scheduled rotation of [our] brigades to rest," the statement said.
Besides troop rotation, certain combat brigades will be reinforced with fresh troops discovered in the audit.
On Feb. 22, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi began a comprehensive audit of the country’s military to establish if there were any untapped “internal reserves” among the force.
On March 14, Syrskyi announced that the military began the process of rotating and replenishing units deployed on combat duty.
On March 29, Syrskyi said that the initial figure of 500,000 men the military initially requested to be mobilized has been revised down “significantly”.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
