Ukrainian drones struck the Zuivska and Starobeshivska thermal power plants in the Russian-occupied part of Donetsk Oblast, Commander of Ukraine’s Drone Systems Forces Robert Brovdi, known as Magyar, said on Nov. 18, adding that the attacks went as planned and shared footage of the operation on his Telegram channel.

He stressed that the attack drones “performed exactly as planned,” causing widespread power outages across Russia.

According to Magyar, the Zuivska plant in the town of Zuhres has an installed capacity of around 1,200 megawatts, enough to cover roughly one-third of the electricity needs in occupied Donetsk Oblast.

The Starobeshivska plant in the town of Novyi Svit was also hit in the attack, he added. It is even more powerful — up to 2,300 megawatts — and delivers significant output even when operating under partial load.

“Birds from the 1st Separate Center of the Drone Systems Forces (formerly the 14th SBS Regiment) keep pecking and will keep pecking,” Magyar wrote.

In the early hours of Nov. 18, parts of Russian-occupied Donetsk and other cities in the oblast experienced blackouts following an attack by unidentified drones on a power substation. Later, areas of Makiivka, Ilovaisk, and the Zuivska power plant were also left without electricity, with reports of a fire at the facility.
