Ukraine’s military intelligence agency said its special forces defeated a group of Chechen fighters loyal to Ramzan Kadyrov on the frontline, releasing video footage of the operation in a statement on Apr. 29.
In early March 2026, fighters from the Shamabat special unit of Ukraine’s military intelligence, which includes personnel from Ichkeria, together with the 104th Territorial Defense Brigade Horyn and in coordination with a HUMINT operations unit, eliminated another group of mercenaries from the Russian National Guard’s Akhmat unit.
“Using drone strikes and artillery, the reconnaissance units destroyed enemy vehicles and armored equipment and inflicted the heaviest personnel losses on Kadyrov fighters since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion,” the statement said.
According to a brief update, enemy losses may amount to at least several dozen killed and about 80 wounded.
Details of the operation have not been disclosed. Military intelligence said more information will be provided soon.
