Ukraine limits electricity supply for industry
Power supply to Ukrainian industry and businesses will be limited in peak hours, national power grid operator Ukrenergo announced on May 8.
If peak hours consumption increases any further, household consumers will also face emergency blackouts, according to the announcement.
Ukrenergo said it will restrict power supply to industry and business from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., distributed across the country.
The company has asked for economical use of electricity from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. to avoid having to implement emergency blackouts for household consumers throughout Ukraine.
Household consumers were urged not to turn on all high-powered electrical appliances simultaneously, to switch off lights in empty rooms, and to postpone laundry to nighttime hours.
Business and industry were requested to dim lights in trade halls and to use energy-saving equipment.
Early in the morning on May 8, Russia attacked Ukraine’s power grid with 55 ballistic and cruise missiles and 21 kamikaze drones. Although the Ukrainian military announced it had shot down 39 of the incoming missiles, power generation and transmission facilities in Poltava, Kirovohrad, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Vinnytsia oblasts were struck.
