NASAMS maker opens Ukraine office to team up on air defense solutions
The Norwegian company Kongsberg Defense and Aerospace, which manufactures NASAMS air defense systems, has opened an office in Ukraine, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported on Telegram on June 22.
In cooperation with Kongsberg, Ukraine is focusing on developing new NASAMS-based air defense solutions to protect the population and critical infrastructure.
"Air defense is one of our strategic priorities. This month alone, the enemy (Russia) has launched over 3,500 missiles and UAVs. We are working on scaling up production and accelerating deliveries," said Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
The office opening is another step in developing the partnership between Ukraine, Norway, and Kongsberg to implement projects in interceptor production, air defense, and maritime defense.
"This also opens up new opportunities for Ukrainian and Norwegian engineers to collaborate and improve the efficiency of existing weapons systems and introduce innovations."
On Feb. 28, Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace president Eric Lee announced plans to produce missiles for NASAMS air defense system in Ukraine.
“We aim for mass production — hundreds of missiles,” he said, adding that the company was considering launching joint ventures within a few months.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
