Ukraine opens embassy in Botswana
Ukraine's embassy Botswana is now officially operational, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry announced on April 17.
The opening ceremony took place on April 16, marking the start of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and the southern African nation.
Ukraine's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Subkh, and Botswana's Foreign Minister Lemogang Kwape presided over the inauguration.
Government officials from Botswana, members of the business community, diplomats from Gaborone, Ukrainian community representatives, and local media participated in the event.
“I strongly believe that the establishment of the Ukrainian Diplomatic Mission in Gaborone will allow seamless and effective interaction between our countries and coordinate our stances on significant initiatives at the UN and other international institutions,” said Subkh.
Minister Kwape also received a personal message from Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba and an invitation to engage in President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula initiative.
Both parties discussed the forthcoming peace summit in Switzerland (scheduled for mid-June), which Botswana has been invited to attend.
