Ukraine nears 1,000 daily interceptor drone deployments

Ukraine’s goal of deploying at least 1,000 interceptor drones per day will be achieved in the near future, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced during a press conference on Sept. 18, according to news agency Interfax-Ukraine.

Ukraine aims to effectively destroy Russian drones, and interceptor drones can address this challenge, he stated.

"We understand that 800 drones per night is the level Russia has already demonstrated in practice," Shmyhal said.

“Accordingly, we need to have no fewer than 1,000 interceptor drones. This level will be achieved. I cannot say what the current level is, but it will be realized very soon.”

Ukraine can quickly reach the production level of 1,000 such drones daily but also needs sufficient ground control complexes, radars, and other components, the official added.

"We can achieve this level very quickly. Right now," Shmyhal said.

“The issue lies in the number of ground control complexes, radars, and relevant components, including those using artificial intelligence for targeting.”

On Sept. 11, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine constantly adapts its methods to combat Russian attack drones, updating them every two to three months in response to Russia’s new modifications.

On Aug. 4, Reuters reported that Ukraine is building a shield of interceptors to counter Russian drones.

Oleksii Solntsev, founder of MaXon Systems, told Defender Media about the development of a new "air-to-air" air defense complex based on interceptor drones.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
