Ukraine receives 50,000 shells from Czechia
Ukraine has already received the first 50,000 artillery shells as part of the Czech-led supply initiative, with some of the ammunition already in use by the military, Ukrainian PM Denys Shmyhal said on July 16.
Shmyhal made the announcement during a press conference with his Czech counterpart, Petr Fiala.
On a visit to Czechia, Shmyhal commended the Czech government for spearheading international efforts to alleviate Ukraine’s urgent need for artillery ammunition. He noted that the initiative is already in effect and has significantly improved the combat effectiveness of Ukrainian forces on the battlefield.
“This initiative is already in effect—the first 50,000 shells have already arrived in Ukraine,” the Ukrainian PM said.
“Some of these munitions are currently at the frontline, destroying Russian occupiers. We have good prospects and hope for joint projects to produce ammunition either in Czechia or in secure locations in Ukraine.”
Previously, Czech President Petr Pavel said Prague could facilitate the delivery of up to 100,000 shells per month.
