Ukraine, Rheinmetall open first joint facility
An armored vehicle maintenance and production plant, established by Ukraine’s Ukroboronprom and Germany’s Rheinmetall on Ukrainian soil, is now operational, Ukrainian Strategic Industries Minister Oleksandr Kamyshin announced on June 10.
“This will immediately allow for quicker repairs of foreign equipment, enabling it to return to the front lines more swiftly,” said Kamyshin.
“In the future, new models of armored vehicles will be produced here.”
He added that the project supports not only the military but also the Ukrainian economy.
“Ukrainian specialists work in the workshop under the technical supervision of German colleagues,” the minister said.
“Taxes are paid in Ukraine, and we gain technological expertise.”
Rheinmetall is a major German defense conglomerate that manufactures ammunition and military equipment. In October 2023, the company signed a deal to establish a joint venture with the Ukrainian defense industry.
In March, Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger announced that the company aims to build at least four plants in Ukraine to produce artillery shells, military equipment, gunpowder, and air defense systems.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
