Ukraine, Romania building new cross-border power transmission lines

Ukraine and Romania are building two new cross-border
high-voltage power lines, and one could be ready by the end of 2026,
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a visit to Bucharest on March 12.
“We are expanding cross-border energy cooperation,” Zelenskyy said at joint news conference with Romanian President Nicusor Dan.
“We are building two new lines with Romania to supply electricity. The work is starting. It can support our regions, particularly Chernivtsi [Oblast], and it will help Romania strengthen energy stability in our part of Europe.”
Zelenskyy added the project is mutually beneficial and that officials signed a document on how the interconnectors will be built.
“We signed a very important interconnector project,” he said.
“We will build two interconnectors. They will carry different amounts of electricity … energy security for Ukraine. One interconnector is small, the other large. We want the first to be ready by the end of the year; the outlook is positive so far.”
Zelenskyy is scheduled to visit France after his trip to
Romania. The two presidents also signed a declaration on strategic partnership
that covers energy and defense, including joint drone production.
