Russia's overnight drone and missile attack on Ukraine thwarted, says Air Force commander

Ukrainian air defense shot down 14 of 16 Shahed attack drones launched overnight from the Russian cities of Yeysk and Kursk, Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk reported on Telegram on Aug. 23.

Two drones remaining “lost radar contact”.

Two Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles were also fired at Ukraine from Russia’s Voronezh Oblast.

No casualties or damage were reported.

Air defense operated in Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Poltava, and Sumy oblasts. Explosions could be heard in Cherkasy Oblast.
