Ukraine's Cyber Corps attacked the digital infrastructure of Russian online retailer Wildberries on Aug. 10-11 as part of a Defense Intelligence operation, the agency said.
According to Ukraine's Defense Intelligence, despite the facility's high level of protection, the attack caused widespread disruptions, affecting the company's main remote customer service channel, partially destabilizing its payment infrastructure and placing additional strain on its contact centers.
The attack prompted widespread complaints from users, including over their inability to make payments.
Ukrainian intelligence said the cyberoperation amplified the impact of previous strikes by the Defense Forces on Wildberries warehouses, causing the company further significant losses. According to Defense Intelligence, the company plays an important role in Russian logistics and in financing the war against Ukraine.
Strikes on Wildberries
Ukraine's strikes on Wildberries warehouses have become extensive. According to Reuters, at least 20 of the company's logistics centers have been targeted by Ukrainian drones, with some facilities completely destroyed by fires. Overall, the marketplace has lost about 1.18 million square meters of warehouse space.
The effects of the attacks are already being felt by the company and the Russian economy. Amid the loss of logistics capacity and an exodus of sellers, Wildberries' turnover has reportedly fallen by about a quarter.
Reuters, citing a source close to the Kremlin, also reported that Russia could face a wave of bankruptcies among entrepreneurs who sold goods through the marketplace and lost their products in attacks on its logistics centers.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
