Ukraine’s military stems enemy attacks, operational pause in place – Zelensky

President Volodymyr Zelensky provided an update on the situation in Ukraine amid a full-scale Russian invasion during his latest address on Feb. 24. According to him, the Ukrainian army, border guards, police and special services have successfully stopped enemy attacks for the moment.

Here are the highlights regarding the situation in Ukraine from his announcement:

  • The Armed Forces of Ukraine are doing the best they can in the Donbas;
  • It is very tough in the Kharkiv area, but the military are doing a good job protecting the city;
  • The most problematic region is the south. Ukrainian troops are engaging in fierce battles in the suburbs of Kherson. The enemy is trying to advance towards Melitopol (Zaporizhzhia Oblast) from occupied Crimea;
  • In the north, the enemy is slowly advancing in Chernihiv Oblast, but "(Ukrainian forces are ready) to resist them";
  • Zhytomyr Oblast has reliable defense;
  • An armed landing force was blocked in Hostomel near Kyiv, Ukrainian troops have been ordered to liquidate the invaders;
  • There are casualties among the Ukrainian army, Russian fighters have been captured, some of them are being treated by Ukrainian doctors;
  • Numerous Russian aircraft and armored vehicles were destroyed.

The press center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that fighting is now continuing in virtually the entire territory of south-eastern and central Ukraine. There is a fierce battle near Chornobyl in Kyiv Oblast. Russian troops are trying to advance into Ukraine: 392 attacks were recorded, six bridges were destroyed. Ukrainian fighters continue to defend Ukraine.
