Ukraine will receive one million shells — up from 800,000 — as part of the Czech initiative to provide ammunition to Ukraine’s Armed Forces, the Italian media Corriere della Sera reported, citing its sources.
“The original plan was to purchase 800,000 shells total: 500,000 of the most commonly used 155 mm caliber and 300,000 of 122 mm caliber,” the article said.
“However, Czech officials ultimately ended up acquiring an extra 200,000 shells."
Ukraine may receive the first batches of ammunition not in June, as previously stated publicly by the Czech government, but as early as April.
The shells are expected to come from South Korea, Turkey, and South Africa.

Czech President, Petr Pavel, announced the possibility of purchasing 800,000 shells for Ukraine for the first time on Feb. 17.
The shells are planned to be purchased from South Korea and South Africa. The contract is worth approximately $2 billion, a Ukrainian military representative told NV.
Ukraine’s allies revealed they had raised the entire amount necessary to purchase the artillery shells on March 7.
Czechia purchased 800,000 artillery shells from third countries, which could be delivered to Ukraine within a few weeks, the tabloid Bild reported on March 11. The country could have bought ammunition in South Korea, South Africa, and Turkey.
Czechia is searching for ammunition for Ukraine worldwide, with even Russia's allies among the suppliers, The Wall Street Journal reported on March 18.
