Russian troops will need at least two weeks to prepare a new offensive from the territory of Belarus, meaning that Ukrainian intelligence would be able to give advance warning of the enemy’s plans, head of Ukraine’s State Border Service, Serhiy Deineko, told Ukrainian TV broadcasters on Jan. 25.

“We will have at least two weeks; our reconnaissance works very well, consistently,” said Deineko

No enemy plans can remain concealed from our intelligence officers.”

He added the enemy hasn’t created a single offensive task force on the territory of Belarus so far, so there is no imminent threat to Ukraine from the northern direction.

The official also added that there are 6,000-10,000 Russian soldiers in Belarus, who are participating in joint military exercises.

In an interview with The Economist in December 2022, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Gen. Valerii Zaluzhnyi, said that Russia may launch a new major offensive in February 2023. The operation could be another Russian invasion from across the Ukraine-Belarus border.

On Jan. 24, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia was now building up forces for a new large-scale offensive.
