Ukrainian air defense shoots down 36 Russian drones, mostly over Odesa and Kyiv oblasts

Russia launched 63 attack drones, including Shahed UAVs and another unidentified type, in strikes on Ukraine early on Oct. 25, according to the Ukrainian Armed Forces Air Command. Ukrainian air defenses downed 36 drones.

The drones were launched from Russia’s Orel, Kursk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk regions. Air defense operated across 12 oblasts, including Odesa, Kyiv, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, Lviv, Rivne, and Poltava.

Most Russian targets were shot down over Odesa and Kyiv oblasts, the report noted.

Sixteen drones lost location signals.

During the attack, explosions were reported in Kyiv and surrounding areas. Falling debris ignited fires in open areas in the capital, where air defense units intercepted about 15 drones. Defense operations were also reported in Lviv Oblast.
