Russian invaders launched six cruise missiles and up to 16 assault drones over Ukraine during the night of June 9, with most being shot down by the air defense, Ukrainian Air Force reported on Telegram on June 9.

The occupiers used Iranian Shahed-136/131 kamikaze drones and air-launched Kh-101/Kh-55 missiles to attack military facilities and critical infrastructure from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The drones were launched from the south, while the missiles were launched from four Tu-95MS strategic bombers in the Caspian Sea region.

The Ukrainian Air Force successfully neutralized the threat in the areas of responsibility of the Eastern, Western, and Southern Air Commands, destroying:

  • Four cruise missiles
  • Ten Shahed-136/131 drones (Lantset)
  • Four Orlan-10 (Supercam) unmanned aircraft

In a separate incident on the evening of June 8, Russian forces also launched two Kalibr missiles, targeting a civilian object in Cherkasy Oblast.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
