Ukrainian army hits Russian command post in occupied Nova Kakhovka
The Ukrainian
military successfully struck a Russian army command post in the occupied
city of Nova Kakhovka, Kherson Oblast, the military’s Centre for Strategic
Communications, StratCom Ukraine, said on Aug. 9.
“Russia's command post in occupied Nova Kakhovka was hit at about 10 am,” StratCom reported, without revealing any further details.
Video evidence of the attack on Nova Kakhovka was posted by StratCom on Facebook. The video shows smoke rising over the city.
Data about Russian casualties hasn't been provided at the time of publication.
Earlier, the U.S. think tank, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), released a statement that Ukrainian forces had reportedly conducted a military operation near the village of Kozachi Laheri on the occupied left bank of Kherson Oblast. This move was reportedly made possible by weakened Russian defenses in the area.
ISW analysts referred to reports by “Russian correspondents” on Aug. 8, indicating that Ukrainian forces utilized seven vessels, each carrying around six to seven individuals, to execute the amphibious operation on the eastern bank of the Dnipro River, close to the settlement of Kozachi Laheri.
Ukrainian military forces purportedly breached the Russian defense lines, advancing approximately 800 meters inland.
“Ukrainian forces appear to have conducted a limited raid across the Dnipro River and landed on the east (left) bank of Kherson Oblast, although it remains unclear whether Ukrainian troops have established an enduring presence on the east bank,” the analysts said.
Ukraine's General Staff hasn't commented on the matter, though Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar cautioned about sharing information.
The AFU launched the counter-offensive in Ukraine's south in the beginning of June.
