German authorities have arrested a Ukrainian national on
suspicion of spying on Ukrainian military personnel for Russian
intelligence, the federal prosecutor’s office said on March 30.
Prosecutors said they sought an arrest warrant from an investigating judge at Germany’s Federal Supreme Court on March 28. The suspect, identified as Vitalii M., was detained in Hagen on March 27. He was brought before the judge the next day, who issued the warrant and ordered him held in custody pending trial.
The prosecutor’s office said Vitalii M. is suspected of working for a foreign intelligence service. According to the arrest warrant, in November 2025, he began collecting information living in Germany who had served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The message said the surveillance appeared to be part of preparations for further operations by the foreign service against that individual in Germany. The Hagen police are leading the investigation, prosecutors said.
The case follows other spying accusations involving
Ukrainian citizens charged with spying for Russia in Germany.
