In an interview with NV Radio, veteran of the Russia-Ukraine war and manager of the Come Back Alive charity Andriy Rymaruk spoke about Ukrainian troops liberating settlements in Kharkiv Oblast from Russian occupation.

Russia's war against Ukraine - the main events of May 15

“In some places, (the front lines) are mere kilometers away from the Russian border, in others – 10-20 kilometers. Landscape features – forests, fields, elevation – dictate the nature of clashes. Every elevation point can give a strategic advantage, and has to be fought over... Our most recent intelligence suggests that Russians are spooked enough to start building fortifications as deep as 5-10 kilometers inside their border (there is photo- and video evidence that corroborates these reports),” Rymaruk said.

He added that Russia continues to fire at Kharkiv’s suburbs from its territory, meaning that a certain level of incoming artillery fire threat will remain, for a while.

According to regional officials, the past several days in Kharkiv were relatively quiet, while other settlements in the region are still being attacked by the Russian military.

Numerous military experts conclude that, in addition to the Battle for Kyiv, Russia has suffered its second major defeat in this war – the Battle for Kharkiv.

Ukraine’s General Staff reported that Russia is redeploying its troops from around Kharkiv to Izyum, hoping to prevent their forces there from being encircled.
