Ukrainian HIMARS much less effective without US intelligence

5 March 2025, 11:38 PM

The United States has severed a critical intelligence channel that provided Ukraine with targeting data for HIMARS artillery systems, according to a report by The Economist journalist Oliver Carroll.

In a Twitter post on March 5, Carroll also said that the United States no longer alerts Ukraine about incoming major Russian attacks.

“Ukraine also isn’t receiving real-time information for long-range strikes,” he added.

“Trump wanted a thank you,” a source told Carroll, “We will be writing it on graves of dead Ukrainians.”

In an earlier report, Sky News cited a Ukrainian source stating that the United States has ceased all sharing intelligence with Ukraine, including data that could be used for attacks on Russian territory.

Later, U.S. National Security Advisor Michael Waltz confirmed the information regarding the intelligence sharing. According to him, the United States has "taken a step back" and the administration is "reviewing all aspects" of its intelligence relationship with Ukraine.

On March 3, U.S. President Donald Trump cut all military aid to Kyiv.
