Ukrainian soldiers are preparing for “future actions” in the town of Bakhmut in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine’s Operational Command East spokesman Serhiy Cherevatyi said on March 16.
“A defensive operation is underway there now,” he said on Ukrainian national television.
“The main task is that with great effort, with incredible willpower, courage, and heroism, our soldiers and commanders are holding back the enemy, while inflicting huge losses on them. This is a harbinger of the future actions that Ukrainian society is expecting.”
Ukrainian Armed Forces “are exhausting, bleeding the enemy, knocking out their combat power in personnel and equipment,” said Cherevatyi.
“Thus, they’re breaking the morale of the enemy, who, zombified by Russian propaganda, believed that ‘Russia has no borders,’ (they are) ‘the world’s second army,’ etc. And here is the district center, and they haven’t been able to capture it for eight months.”
There was unanimous agreement to continue with the defense of Bakhmut at the meeting of the Headquarters of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on March 14.
Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief General Valerii Zaluzhnyi said the defense of Bakhmut is crucial for the stability of the entire frontline.
