The aggressor state Russia launched a massive strike on DTEK’s thermal power plants, resulting in significant equipment damage, the energy company wrote on Telegram on Dec. 13.

Energy workers have already begun addressing the aftermath and restoring equipment functionality.

"Preliminary information indicates no casualties," the company wrote.

"The massive attack caused serious damage to the thermal power plant equipment."

"This marks the 12th massive attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure this year and the ninth on DTEK’s energy facilities," it added.

"DTEK’s thermal power plants have been shelled more than 200 times since the war outbreak."

DTEK warned of updated outage schedules for Kyiv, Kyiv Oblast, as well as Dnipropetrovsk and Odesa oblasts on Dec. 13.

"Ukrenergo issued new instructions, prompting the revision of today’s outage schedules," the officials said.

Massive Russian Strike on Dec. 13

Overnight, Russia targeted Ukraine with dozens of drones, followed by a morning missile barrage, including ballistic and cruise missiles, namely Kalibr and Kh-101.  Strikes hit Odesa, Lviv, and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts, causing widespread power outages, including in Ternopil Oblast, where 50% of consumers faced power cuts.

Ukrainian officials confirmed that the attacks were primarily aimed at the country’s energy infrastructure.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called for 20 additional air defense systems from international partners to bolster Ukraine’s protection.

U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink condemned the strikes, describing them as a "barrage of ballistic missiles" targeting critical infrastructure, including energy and transport networks.

Ukraine’s air defense successfully intercepted 81 of 91 missiles, with 11 cruise missiles taken down by F-16 fighter jets.

The attack included at least one North Korean missile.
