US, Germany to transfer more HIMARS systems to Ukraine

10 May 2024, 02:41 AM

Germany will fund the transfer of three additional HIMARS rocket artillery systems from the United States to Ukraine, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said on May 9.

Pistorius made the announcement while speaking with journalists, according to German news outlet T-online.

He clarified that the deal involves three HIMARS launchers.

He added that the weapons are currently with other Western armed forces and will be paid for by Germany.

"We have also reiterated decisively how important NATO, and especially our European partners, are when it comes to supporting Ukraine, the significance and danger posed by Putin's attack on Ukraine for security in Europe and the world," Pistorius said.

In June 2022, Ukraine received its first batch of HIMARS systems and used them to attack Russian military logistics close to the frontline, forcing Moscow to relocate much of its ammunition depots beyond the 80-kilometer range of the weapon.

The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.

Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.

For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
