US official in Kyiv to talk F-16 program expansion
U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien arrived in Ukraine for an official visit, U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink announced via Twitter on Aug. 13.
“We warmly welcome Assistant Secretary of State James O’Brien back to Ukraine,” she wrote.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba stated that he held "substantive negotiations" with O’Brien.
During their meeting, the officials discussed a potential expansion of the F-16 program and further steps bringing Ukraine closer to NATO membership. Another key topic was Kyiv’s repeated requests to lift the few remaining restriction on the use of U.S.-supplied weapons in Russian territory.
Brink added that O’Brien’s presence in Kyiv is a "powerful signal" underscoring the unwavering support provided to Ukraine by the United States.
O’Brien’s last trip to Ukraine was in December 2023.
