Pentagon accelerates delivery of $9 billion in security aid packages to Ukraine
The United States is making every effort to continue to expedite about $9 billion of the remaining security assistance to Ukraine, Pentagon Press Secretary Air Force Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said at a press briefing on Dec. 5.
A total of $2.21 billion in Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI) and $6.8 billion in Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA) package remain in the funds authorized for military assistance to Ukraine.
"The sense of urgency within the department in terms of supporting Ukraine hasn't changed, understanding that - the fight they're in," he said.
“And we've been doing that for, you know, upwards of three years, almost three years now, and we'll continue to do that and continue to ensure that we're speaking with them and our allies and partners to enable Ukraine to defend its freedom and its sovereignty.”
This follows U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken's statement on Dec. 4 that Washington is committed to fully utilizing the $61 billion in funding for Ukraine approved by Congress by the end of President Joe Biden's term.
