US Senate condemns Putin as war criminal
The U.S. Senate has unanimously passed a resolution condemning Russian President Vladimir Putin as a war criminal. The document was supported by senators from both parties, Reuters reports.
The resolution was introduced by Republican Senator Lindsey Graham.
The Senate thus calls on the International Court of Justice in The Hague, and other countries probing Putin in relation to atrocities and war crimes committed during Russia's invasion of Ukraine, to focus on the Russian military.
“All of us in this chamber join together – as Democrats and Republicans – to say that Vladimir Putin cannot escape accountability for the atrocities committed against the Ukrainian people,” said Senate Majority Leader from Democrats Chuck Schumer.
