Vance blames Iran war for midterm wipeout

U.S. Vice President JD Vance said the U.S.–Israeli war
against Iran was the primary cause for the stunning midterms
defeat suffered by the GOP in several states, the AP
reported on Nov. 4, the next day after the elections.
“The reason we lost is the war [against Iran],” Vance wrote
in a Twitter post.
“If you’d like to argue it was worth it, that losing the
Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile
cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that’s at least honest.”
According to the AP, the vice president appeared to be
distancing himself from the midterm election results, which are “seen as a
referendum on Trump that featured big Republican losses across the country.”
The United States held congressional midterm elections Nov.
3. Democrats won a decisive victory over Republicans, allowing them to take
control of both chambers of Congress. Democrats were expected to win at least
54 of the Senate’s 100 seats, compared with 42 for Republicans. In the House,
Democrats were projected to win at least 228 of 435 seats, compared with 139
for Republicans.
The Financial Times wrote on Nov. 4 that the Republican
Party’s midterm defeat demonstrated Americans’ decisive rejection of Trump, his
allies and the agenda for his second term.
Key states and districts that had long been battlegrounds
easily shifted back to the Democrats, while Republicans suffered a devastating
defeat on their home turf — in the deeply conservative regions of the South and
rural America, where they had previously appeared invulnerable, the FT said.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
