VP Vance heads to Europe: AI summit, Ukraine strategy
U.S. Vice President JD Vance will attend a high-level summit focusing on artificial intelligence in Paris on Feb. 10-11 and the annual Munich Security Conference in Germany on Feb. 14-16, Voice of America reported on Feb. 6.
It will be his first scheduled trip abroad since taking office.
The Munich summit, which brings together leaders from around the world, is expected to focus on Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine and its implications for global international security.
It comes as the Trump administration weighs whether to continue U.S. military and economic aid to Ukraine and how to curb the growing partnership between Russia, Iran, and China while pursuing protectionist economic policies.
The AI Action Summit will also bring together heads of state, top government officials, and CEOs to discuss the challenges posed by rapid advances in the technology sector.
Keith Kellogg, the U.S. president's special envoy for Ukraine and Russia, will also attend the Munich Security Conference, which will focus on discussing President Donald Trump's strategy for ending the war in Ukraine. He is expected to visit Kyiv before joining Vance in Germany, according to multiple Ukrainian and U.S. sources.
On Feb. 1, Kellogg stated that Trump allegedly has a "reliable plan" to end Russia's war against Ukraine and initiate peace talks. The approach will seemingly involve putting pressure on both Kyiv and Moscow, compelling the parties to make compromises and agree to a ceasefire. The plan may include freezing the war, leaving the occupied territories in a "suspended state," and providing security guarantees to Ukraine.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
