Ukraine’s General Staff on April 5 released a short video highlighting the extent of carnage and ruination of the town of Hostomel, near Kyiv.

The video was recorded on April 4, and shows collapsed and burnt-out buildings, destroyed roads, crushed cars, as well as damaged and obliterated Russian armor.

Hostomel was a focal point of the Russian invasion from day one: large numbers of Moscow’s elite airborne forces repeatedly assaulted the town, aiming to capture its Antonov Airfield, which was supposed to become a landing ground for troops, who were then supposed to make a rapid advance on Kyiv.

However, Ukrainian forces rapidly counterattacked and repeatedly forced back the invaders, and the plan to rapidly seize Kyiv was foiled within the first days of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
