Ukrainian soldiers share devastating footage from Vuhledar in Donbas
Ukrainian soldiers have shared aerial footage showing the devastation of Vuhledar, a town in the Volnovakha district of Donetsk Oblast, as Russian forces attempt to encircle it, the DeepState monitoring project reported on Telegram on Sept. 24.
The footage, captured from a bird's-eye view, reveals the extensive destruction of the settlement. "Horrifying scenes of the destruction of a large town…," DeepState said on Telegram.
The video was shared by soldiers from the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, who continue to defend the settlement.
Situation in Vuhledar
Analysts from the DeepState project reported on Sept. 22 that Russian invasion forces are attempting to encircle Vuhledar, with the situation significantly worsening in recent days, particularly near Prechystivka.
Forbes reported on Sept. 23 that Russian troops could cut off the 72nd Separate Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which has been defending Vuhledar for 20 months. The report noted that while combat operations are slowing down on many other fronts in Ukraine, they could accelerate in the Vuhledar area.
Analysts from the DeepState project stated on Sept. 23 that the situation around Vuhledar is critical and continues to deteriorate. The Russian army is attempting to surround the town and is simultaneously destroying the settlement with artillery and guided aerial bombs (KABs).
Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council, reported that Vuhledar was previously advantageous for defense due to its elevated position. However, the enemy has managed to destroy it and is now able to move around its flank using KABs.
