High-speed Vidmak FPV drones cleared to join Ukraine’s arsenal
The Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has greenlit the domestically produced Vidmak (“Witcher”) unmanned aerial complex for use by the country’s Defense Forces, according to a press release issued on Feb. 25.
The high-speed FPV drones in this complex can overtake any wheeled vehicle operated by Russian forces.
Manufactured at a Ukrainian facility with most components sourced locally, the Vidmak was designed with input from Ukrainian soldiers’ combat experience, the ministry said.
Despite its compact size, the drone carries a payload powerful enough to effectively strike armored vehicles and fortified enemy fire positions.
The Vidmak achieves significant speed, offers sharp maneuverability, and operates day or night, identifying and engaging typical enemy targets, the ministry added.
Ukrainian-made drones
On Jan. 29, the Ministry of Defense launched licensed production of modern FPV drones at a state-owned enterprise.
On Jan. 31, it approved the Hromylo, another Ukrainian-made unmanned aerial complex, for military use.
On Feb. 5, the ministry cleared the ZEUS and HADES drones — also domestically produced — for service, noting their effectiveness against field fortifications, armored vehicles, and enemy troops.
On Feb. 10, the Ukrainian-made BATON unmanned aerial complexes, capable of chasing and hitting targets at high speed, gained approval for use in the armed forces.
On Feb. 18, the ministry had authorized the U13 and U15 unmanned aerial complexes, both Ukrainian-made and designed to destroy fortified positions, armor, and personnel. The U13 and U15 FPV drones differ in frame size and payload capacity.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
