Russia announced an upcoming visit by U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow but provided no further details, Russian state media wrote, citing Vladimir Putin’s special representative Kirill Dmitriev.

“Witkoff is planning to visit Russia in the near future,” he said.

Dmitriev was yet to provide any further details.

Ukraine-Russia peace talks

On May 7, National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov met in the United States with U.S. representatives Witkoff and Kushner. The same day, the Kremlin said it considered trilateral talks in the U.S.-Ukraine-Russia format inappropriate until Ukraine withdraws its troops from the part of Donbas it controls.

On April 20, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said there was no need to make a fuss over Wittkoff and Kushner's visit to Kyiv, noting that Ukraine regularly maintains contact with them.

"I believe it's not us who need their visit, but them,” the Ukrainian president added. “Why? Because it's disrespectful to go to Moscow and not come to Kyiv.”

On May 1, Kyiv Independent, citing Ukrainian and American officials, reported that Witkoff and Kushner are not planning to visit Kyiv due to a deadlock in negotiations.
