Zelenskyy: air defenses improved after reorganization

Ukraine’s Air Force and broader air defenses have been more effective
in recent weeks after a reorganization in response to the sustained Russian air
strike campaign, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Feb. 26.
Zelenskyy made the remarks in his evening video address.
“There is something to thank our air defenses for today,” he said, adding that more than 30 Russian missiles were shot down that morning. He said that most of the missiles were aimed at energy infrastructure and that Ukraine had been able to protect several important facilities.
He also reported progress in countering Shahed kamikaze drones.
“And every night, that’s right, every night, when our air defenses have sufficient ammunition and when partners do what we agree on, we can achieve such results and interceptions,” Zelenskyy said.
Zelenskyy said some elements of the defense system have been reorganized in recent weeks to better repel large-scale Russian strikes. He thanked military commanders, the defense and energy ministers, and officials at both the national and regional levels for implementing the improvement.
During the overnight attack into Feb. 26, Russian forces
used 39 missiles and 420 strike drones against Ukraine. That included two
Zircon hypersonic cruise missiles launched from occupied Crimea, targeting
infrastructure in Kyiv Oblast.
