President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced several new support programs for Ukrainians, the head of state said on March 12.
“We agreed with Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, First Deputy Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and ministers Oleksii Sobolev and Denys Uliutin to prepare several support programs for Ukrainians.”
Zelenskyy said the Ministry of Social Policy of Ukraine must prepare a program for April that will introduce a special supplement for Ukrainian pensioners and other groups receiving social assistance.
According to him, at least 13 million Ukrainians will receive the payment, which will amount to 1,500 hryvnias.
“The funds must reach people without any bureaucracy and will be credited automatically to those whose income level means they need support,” the Ukrainian president said.
In addition, the Ukrainian ministries of economy and energy must prepare a support program for consumers of diesel, gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas. The program will operate through a cashback system, allowing people to receive partial compensation for fuel expenses.
“I instructed Yulia Svyrydenko to work out the details of the support programs today and tomorrow and present them to the public,” Zelenskyy added.
On March 2, oil prices surged sharply, marking the biggest increase in four years, but later declined as traders assessed the actual closure of the Strait of Hormuz caused by the war between the United States and Israel.
Fuel prices in Ukraine, which depends on imports, have risen by about 5% due to news of supply problems from Persian Gulf countries.
Danylo Hetmantsev, head of the Verkhovna Rada’s tax committee, urged fuel market participants to limit price increases.
