Zelenskyy arrives in Washington for high stakes meeting with Trump

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy arrived in the United States and plans to meet with U.S. energy and defense business leaders on Oct. 16 before heading to the White House for talks with U.S. President Donald Trump on Oct. 17.
“We expect the momentum in reining in terror and war that took effect in the Middle East to help end Russia’s war against Ukraine,” Zelenskyy said in his evening address.
“[Russian dictator Vladimir] Putin is definitely no braver than Hamas or any other terrorist. The language of strength and justice will surely apply to Russia. We already see Moscow rushing to resume dialogue at the mere mention of Tomahawks.”
Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne released Zelenskyy’s U.S. visit schedule. Before his meeting with Trump, Zelenskyy will hold talks on Capitol Hill and meet with Ukrainian journalists.
During the talks, the two leaders are expected to discuss ways to compel Putin to the negotiating table, including the possible transfer of Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kyiv. The Financial Times reported that Washington could provide Ukraine with 20 to 50 such missiles.
Hours before Zelenskyy’s arrival in the United States, Trump and Putin spoke for more than two hours by phone, agreeing to meet in Budapest, Hungary, in the coming weeks. The U.S. president said he hopes the summit would bring an end to the Russo–Ukrainian war.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
