Belarus should join EU in future, Zelenskyy says
Belarus should become a member of the European Union in the
future, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said
during a speech at the EU leaders’ summit in Brussels on June 27.
“Any European nation that shares common European values
should be part of the European family,” said Zelenskyy.
“This would be true for Ukraine, for Moldova, for the people
of the Balkans and for Georgia. Of course, Georgia’s moment will come,” he added.
Belarus would also have to join the European Union,
Zelenskyy added.
“I am sure that there will be decisions regarding Belarus
because it is also a European nation that should be in Europe in the future,”
he said.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy arrived in Brussels on June 27
to attend a meeting of the European Council and sign three security agreements.
The agreement with the EU will, for the first time, enshrine the commitment of all 27 member states to provide Ukraine with broad support despite any institutional changes within the bloc, according to the Ukrainian leader.
