Kravchenko has been removed from his post as Prosecutor General, according
to a decree signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Sept. 15.
Earlier the same day, the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada) voted to dismiss Kravchenko. Before the vote, Kravchenko addressed the MPs, cautioning them against taking steps “under political or media pressure.”
On Sept. 14, Kravchenko, who had submitted his resignation on Sept. 7 amid reports of possible links to corruption schemes, pressed charges against the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Director Semen Kryvonos.
Kryvonos rejected the prosecutor general’s statement, calling the case fabricated and saying he had not been formally charged. NABU described the move as a continuation of attacks on anti-corruption institutions, while the Office of the Prosecutor General later said Kryvonos had in fact not been charged.
President Zelenskyy later said the prosecutor general must
resign and urged parliament to support his dismissal.
