President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with U.S. actor Sean
Penn on March 16, after Penn arrived in Kyiv, the president said in a
Telegram post.
“Thanks to you, Sean, we know what a true friend of Ukraine is,” Zelenskyy said.
“You have been with Ukraine since the first day of the full‑scale invasion — and today. We know you will continue to stand with our country and our people.”
Penn traveled to Ukraine instead of attending the Academy Awards ceremony, where he won an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Col. Steven Lockjaw in Paul Thomas Anderson's “One Battle After Another.”
Penn has publicly supported Ukraine through fundraising and
producing documentaries about the Russo–Ukrainian war.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
