Zelenskyy: Long-range strikes cripple Russia, need more to change game
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy credited the provision of long-range missiles for Ukraine's increased strike capabilities and success in destroying Russian weapons depots, control centers and military equipment on the enemy's territory in an interview with Polish media released by the press service on Jan. 16.
He acknowledged the impact of these strikes on Russia's energy sector, power generation facilities and equipment, causing financial losses and disrupting logistics.
"The long-range capability worked. If we had not had long-range strikes, I honestly do not know what the result would have been today," he said, noting the insufficient number of long-range weapons.
Ukrainian forces are aware of all the Russian facilities - depots, control centers, factories - that are being used to wage war against Ukraine. There is a whole table of these targets. But in order to destroy them, we need a sufficient number of long-range weapons. So far, we do not have such a quantity."
On Nov. 17, media reported that Biden had authorized Ukraine to carry out strikes deep into Russian territory with U.S.-made ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 190 miles (306 km).
The French newspaper Le Figaro wrote that Britain and France had also authorized strikes deep into Russian territory with their long-range SCALP/Storm Shadow missiles.
On Nov. 20, the Ukrainian Air Force likely launched Storm Shadow/SCALP cruise missiles at the village of Maryine in Kursk Oblast. A critical military communications hub was targeted in the first strike inside Russian territory with Western long-range missiles.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
