President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands on April 16 and thanked the monarch for his “personal support” of Ukraine and its people during more than four years of war.

In a statement on the presidential website, Zelenskyy said that in the early hours of April 16 Russia carried out a brutal, large-scale strike on Ukraine that killed people in Odesa, Kyiv, and Dnipro and left more than 100 others wounded across the country.

He urged that countries continue to support Ukraine “by all possible means” and do everything necessary to stop the killings and secure a just peace.

“Ukraine will always be grateful to the Netherlands and the Dutch people for their support and significant contribution to protecting lives,” the message said.

Earlier the same day, Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten told a joint news conference with Zelenskyy that the Netherlands will invest EUR482 million ($568 million) in Ukraine’s defense industry under a newly signed partnership agreement.
