Zelenskyy proposes doubling combat pay for veteran troops — lawmaker
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has urged an increase in monthly combat pay for Ukrainian soldiers on the front line to UAH 200,000 ($5,177), doubling the current rate of UAH 100,000 per month, deputy chair of the Parliamentary Defense Committee Yuriy Mysyagin said on Feb. 21.
The announcement came after Zelenskyy’s meeting with the ruling Servant of the People parliamentary party. The proposed raise would affect troops who have spent two full years in active combat zones, Mysyagin clarified.
During the same meeting, Zelenskyy told MPs that Oleksandr Syrskyi, the newly appointed Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, is preparing a comprehensive personnel audit, NV’s sister publication Ukrainska Pravda (UP) reported.
“It appears that many expected to serve at the front did not,” a source told UP. "The audit will give us a clearer picture of the situation."
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
Just as an army needs soldiers, so does a free society need its journalists to ensure that people have access to honest, trustworthy voices to understand the world around them.
For the past five years, The New Voice of Ukraine has been working tirelessly to push back against Russian narratives and defend democracy. But we cannot do it alone.
